Odyssey Books published the first books of a number of authors who went on to distinguished careers with major publishers before those companies were willing to take them on. Among those whose first romance was published by Odyssey are Rochelle Alers, Donna Hill, Francis Ray, and Eboni Snoe — all of whom would publish books for Arabesque, the first big press line dedicated to Black romances, in the first six months of its rollout in 1994. Snoe's BEGUILED was issued in Arabesque's second month; she went on to publish a number of romance with the imprint.
Snoe's A SHEIK'S SPELL is also important in that it predates by over a decade the book that has traditionally been considered the first sheik romance with an African American heroine (Brenda Jackson's DELANEY'S DESERT SHEIKH). This is among the nicest copies we've seen of a book often found in well-read condition.
