Scottish-born Mackail was Oxford Professor of Poetry and a champion of William Morris. This edition takes a number of cues from Mackail's fine press friends, with lush paper and a clean design. A striking library set of the classic of loss and isolation, wit and adventure.
London: John Murray, 1903, 1910. Three octavo volumes, 7.75'' x 5'' each. Full contemporary green goatskin by Roger de Coverly and Sons, double-gilt rules, raised bands, spines lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, other edges uncut. [8], 224; [6], 242; [6], 220 pages. Gentle toning to spines and a touch at top edges. Some foxing to fore-edges; interiors clean. Unrubbed and bright.
