Originally slated to be published by Reynolds and Hitchcock in the late 1940s, the project was shelved after the death of one of the firm's principals and wasn't revived until almost two decades later (and after even Agee's death) for this edition — which has gone on to be a classic of the genre. "Levitt's photographs are beautiful — major, underrated works" (Parr and Badger). A nicer-than-usual copy of this enduring work.
