"the work of man is not yet over."
In a 1968 interview with L.S. Dembo, Reznikoff defined the Objectivist writer as one "who does not write directly about his feelings but about what he sees and hears; who is restricted almost to the textimony of a witness in a court of law; and who expresses his feelings indirectly by the selection of his subject matter and, if he writes in verse, by its music." And: "I can only say what I saw and heard, and try to say it as well as I can."
