"The abyss was there."
Levertov's first Jargon book "initiated a series of trade book publications in the 1960s that made her a major literary figure" (Beam & Owens). Overland was overtly influenced by the work of William Carlos Williams (who wrote in response, "I am really amazed and a little in awe of you. I didn't realize you were so good") and highly praised by fellow Black Mountain Roberts Duncan and Creeley. An uncommon association copy; Bixby's Albondocani Press later published two works by Levertov.
