After moving to the US, Levertov's style changed drastically and immediately from the wistful melancholy of her early poems to something "clear, sparse, immediate and vibrant": with HERE AND NOW and the work that followed, she was recognized as not only the "most subtle poet of her generation" but "far and away the most profound, and what may be more important, the most modest and the most moving" (Rexroth). A scarce and early installment in the iconic City Lights Pocket Poets Series, with a significant association.
