BLUESCHILD BABY
"I'm still alive and that is more important than any success"
Addison Gayle Jr. of THE NEW YORK TIMES praised BLUESCHILD BABY as "the most important work of fiction by an Afro-American since NATIVE SON." The title has enjoyed enduring popularity, and was recently reprinted in a new edition with a preface by Leslie Jamison, who called it a "powerful literary account of addiction." One of the most realistic portrayals of addiction oublished, BLUESCHILD BABY follows a Black man just released from prison, "the bright boy of infinite promise [...] and the very old parolee of twenty-two, who sees little difference between the prison world and the world outside."
This copy warmly and extensively inscribed by Cain to poet Quincy Troupe, with a memorable ending: "He OK finally, rescues me from the sickness, remembers me from another time have forgotten many of the things I've been, but am recalling myself." A major association between these two important Black Arts writers, with an incredible and revealing inscription.
