"But I'm not a saint yet. I'm an alcoholic. I'm a drug addict. I'm homosexual. I'm a genius."
Opening with a preface by Capote, the book is then divided into three sections: "Music for Chameleons" (short pieces), "Conversational Portraits" (interviews, plays), and arguably the strongest piece in the collection, "Handcarved Coffins," which the author (echoing his IN COLD BLOOD) describes as a "nonfiction account of an American crime." An uncommonly sharp example of this late book from the author of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S and OTHER VOICES, OTHER ROOMS.
