Sandra Kitt was one of the first Black authors to publish category romances, beginning with RITES OF SPRING at Harlequin American Romance with Vivian Stephens in 1984. Her second category romance, ADAM AND EVA, was the first published Harlequin featuring Black characters. With this book, Kitt became among the first authors published by Arabesque. This copy was purchased at Black Books Plus in New York City, "a bookstore located in Manhattan that operated from 1989 to 1999. It was owned and operated by Glenderlyn Johnson, a former Schomburg Center librarian, and was one of the few Black-owned bookstores in New York City" (finding aid for the Black Books Plus archive at the New York Public Library).

With original purchase receipt from "Black Books Plus, Inc." in NYC laid in. Moderate edgewear, ding to front wrapper, spot of soil to fore-edge.
