Parts of DANDELION WINE originated as short stories, published in COSMOPOLITAN and other magazines, and the work was also later adapted for the stage, retaining its strong emotional pull in all forms. In interviews throughout his long career, Bradbury frequently stressed the autobiographical element of both setting and characters. Green Town — also the setting for SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES (1962) — is a barely disguised Waukegan, Illinois where Bradbury grew up and first began to write: "It's my hometown, the town I grew up in, my grandfather's house — I helped him make dandelion wine there when I was 3 years old. The house is still there. It's one of my most important books, DANDELION WINE."
