THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA
"My big fish must be somewhere."
Hemingway's final novel published in his lifetime is a tale, stoic and meditative, of the beautiful tension between humankind and the rest of the natural world. A serious marlin fisher, Hemingway used his own experiences to fill in the drama of his hero Santiago's battle with the sea.
OLD MAN AND THE SEA was composed in Cuba with a Cuban protagonist; when he won the Nobel, Hemingway donated the medal to the Cuban people. At the time of the award the Nobel Committee praised Hemingway "for his mastery of the art of narrative, most recently demonstrated in THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA, and for the influence that he has exerted on contemporary style." The book also garnered the Pulitzer Prize.
A particularly nice copy of this quintessential Hemingway book.
