RED DRAGON [and] THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
"If Lecter talks to you at all, he'll just be trying to find out about you. It's the kind of curiosity that makes a snake look in a bird's nest."
Hannibal Lecter was first introduced to readers in RED DRAGON (1981, adapted by Michael Mann for MANHUNTER; later the partial basis for the TV series HANNIBAL), but the character is now best known from the film adaptation SILENCE OF THE LAMBS which won five Academy Awards — including best actor for Anthony Hopkins's chilling performance as Lector, and best actress for Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling. The book, however, was also the winner of that year's Bram Stoker Award from the Horror Writers Association and no less a figure than David Foster Wallace taught the book in his "Literary Interpretation" class at Pomona College. Harris's signature is rather scarce outside of a handful of signed limited editions. He largely eschews readings and other events; these are the first trade editions of these titles we've encountered signed. These copies were inscribed near Harris's summer home in Southampton. A terrific set of the two books that introduced one of the most famous and indelible characters in the modern pantheon.
