This edition takes inspiration from the fine press movement which began in the 19th century as a reaction against the impersonal ugliness that often came to mass production. Many of the movement's practitioners, such as William Morris, looked back to pre-industrial arts for inspiration; W. Russell Flint a late practitioner in the companion artistic movement known as the Pre-Raphaelites (so-called for their focus on art before the Renaissance painter Raphael). Flint's illustrations have the sinuousness of turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau with the rich primary color palette adapted from late medieval painting. Chaucer's late medieval work is an especially suitable subject for his Pre-Raphaelite sensibility.

Illustrated by Flint with 36 tipped-in color plates. Limited to 500 copies on handmade Riccardi Paper. x, 235, [5]; x, 217, [5]; x, 183, [5] pages. Leather spine label bookplates to each volume. Some joints cracked but still firm. Some foxing to labels and boards, heavier to vol.III boards. Offsetting to endpapers, else interiors clean.
