Shepherd's not-quite novel, not-quite short story collection, not-quite memoir was a bestseller when it was released in 1966. Yet it had taken Shepherd years to bring to print. Despite his radio fame, it was only with the help of Shel Silverstein (who recorded and transcribed Shepherd's stories) that the on-air personality was able to translate his oral tales to the page. Most of these stories appeared originally in PLAYBOY, but it remains best known as the main source material for the beloved 1983 movie A CHRISTMAS STORY. Four of the stories gathered here ("Duel in the Snow," "The Counterfeit Secret Circle Member Gets the Message," "My Old Man and the Lascivious Special Award That Heralded the Birth of Pop Art," and "Grover Dill and the Tasmanian Devil") formed the basis for the screenplay, which was co-written by Shepherd (who also narrated the movie). An increasingly elusive first edition.

Blue endpapers. 264 pages. Jacket lightly edgeworn with some rubbing. Head of spine with large chip. Chipping at lower front corner as well. Book with minor shelfwear. Previous owner's name penned to front pastedown, which also exhibits some curling/bubbling (production error). Overall, clean and sound.
