"Write a villanelle about pores. Struggle. Write a sonnet."
Reviewing the book for the New York Times, Jay McInerney found the double-edged parody and sincerity in Moore's title: while scratching "beneath the ad hoc psychic fixit programs we devise for ourselves," she finds the use in fiction that can "instruct us in our current and abiding dilemmas." The announcement of a major talent in vivid and exploratory form.
