"The success of [this] volume for Hodder and Stoughton in London assured Dulac employment in gift books for years to come." – Jeff A. Menges
Dulac was only 25 years old when he was given the opportunity to illustrated this deluxe edition of the ARABIAN NIGHTS for the gift market. It was Dulac's first collaboration with Hodder & Stoughton; the book's robust sales led to a long partnership with the publisher to create an annual deluxe illustrated edition of a classic title for the holiday season. Thus this book can be said to have launched Dulac's career as one of the most respected artists of the Golden Age of Illustration. The frontispiece illustration of Scheherazade is especially striking. A very scarce Dulac limited edition.
