"They're a modern stone-age family."
These original penciled storyboards are for the seventeenth episode of the sixth season of the original series ("The Long, Long, Long Weekend," the one hundred and fifty-seventh overall), which aired on January 21, 1966. Both sheets show Fred Flintstone and his boss, Mr. Slate (of the Slate Rock N' Gravel Company). The earlier sheet (numbered "4") is set in the quarry itself — with dinosaur "excavator" — and the second ("6") is set in Mr. Slate's office. Though unsigned, these were drawn and lettered by legendary Hanna-Barbera artist and storyboard director Bob Singer. Singer is also the author of HOW TO DRAW ANIMATION STORYBOARDS (1992). Two evocative and ephemeral pieces of production material from the first prime-time (and later ubiquitously syndicated) animated series.
