PET SEMATARY
"Uncorrected galley proof" — advance first issue, reproduced from King's final typescript — of this World Fantasy Award nominee, a novel notoriously upsetting even to its own author.
Near fine.

"Sometimes, dead is better."
In the June 20th, 1983 issue of PUBLISHERS WEEKLY, Doubleday offered "the first 500 booksellers who write in on letterhead a chance to preview PET SEMATARY" (14). This advance issue was prepared for that contest, duplicated from King's original typescript. But the quality of the reproduction was reportedly poor enough that a second, traditionally typeset issue was quickly prepared and the publisher pulled all but a reported 50 or so copies of the first that had already circulated. One of King's defining books, a modern retelling of W. W. Jacobs's classic 1902 horror short story "The Monkey's Paw." PET SEMATARY was twice adapted for the screen, neither the equal of the book. King has long been a vocal champion of local bookstores and booksellers: "Independent bookstores are the lifeline of the intellect." A rare advance promotional format of one of King's best and most enduring works.
