A genuinely amusing social satire before the murders begin, AMERICAN PSYCHO is one of the rare and lucky modern classics to get the film adaptation it deserved, if not the treatment its author thought he wanted. Director Mary Harron pulled jewel-like representative set pieces out of the text's cascades of detail, not reinterpreting Ellis's message so much as reframing it with an assured feminist hand, drawing the eye to what was always there.
An uncommonly handsome example of this modern cult classic.
