Eoin Colfer called analogies between his work and J.K. Rowling's "like comparing an apple and an orange." It's hard to imagine Rowling's titular hero holding fairies for ransom, negotiating with a Russian crime syndicate, or pulling off a heist in Chicago, as does Colfer's in these first three appearances.
