Bohny's book was the outcome of the educational reform that had been occurring in Europe beginning with Pestalozzi and continued by Froebel. Bohny, also an educator, believed that rote learning was ineffective. His picture book offered images of hundreds of every day objects presented in an order of increasing complexity from which the child could learn simple and more complicated concepts. This edition is in the same format as the original, but the figures in the illustrations have been updated to reflect contemporary modes of fashion, toys, utensils etc.
