Jean Fauconney, under the anagrammatic pseudonyms Dr, Caufeynon, Dr. Eynon, and Dr. Jaf, wrote numerous quasi-medical texts for an ostensibly male readership on such topics as L'Onanisme, La Procréation, and La Perversion Sexuelle, as well as the affiliated perverse arts of hypnotism, hysteria, tattooing, et cetera, with sources drawn from history, science, literature, and "literature." "In short," Angus McLaren writes, "Dr. Fauconney's books were stuffed with a curious and comforting hodgepodge of citations drawn from both ancient and modern discussions of sexuality." In particular, L'AMOUR LESBIEN cites the literary authorities of Sappho and Rousseau alongside sexological luminaries like Krafft-Ebing, Charles Féré, and Auguste Forel, packaging sexual trivia in a form accessible to a curious but nonacademic audience. Scarce, despite its contemporary popularity.
